Painted this 6x8 at Brookings Harbor, the commercial docks area. It was a bit of a grey day but the floats hanging on the back of this boat seemed to glow. Found out from a fisherman that walked by that the setup is used to fish for black cod. Oil
Painted this 6x8 (inches) at Brookings harbor. It was sunny but a chill wind was blowing. There's a lot of texture from thick paint. I forgot my visor so my eyes were getting seared by the sun. I worked quick so I could get back in my car to warm up.

Living on the Oregon Coast is both beautiful and a challenge for a plein air painter like me. I enjoy painting on location and love the challenge of capturing a brief moment in time. I use a limited palette and complete each painting in one session. I interpret what I see before me using bold color and expressive brush work. I also enjoy painting horses as I've owned them most of my life and it gives me something to paint on rainy days. I paint these also wet on wet but usually in 2 sessions.
